| Renovation of a space for the Microbiology Laboratory in the Battambang Provincial Hospital was completed in June 2010 and supplies and equipment arrived the following December. Ms. Sivly Boun Ray, a young Cambodian-American medical technologist spent four months training the staff in the Battambang microbiology lab even before equipment and supplies arrived. As of March 2011, Vladimir Buron, a young microbiologist who had been serving as chief of the bacteriology lab at NAMRU in Phnom Penh began working in the lab in Battambang. Vladimir will continue the training of the laboratory staff in diagnostic microbiology techniques and help the staff initiate culture and antibiotic sensitivity testing.
